The LPO joins forces with Philharmonia Voices and conductor Robert Ziegler in a special live accompaniment to a screening of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Long recognised as one of the greatest works of science fiction of all time, and a landmark of 1960s cinema, Stanley Kubrick's seminal film is celebrated for its technological realism, its innovative Oscar-winning special effects and its bold use of music.

It brought worldwide fame and recognition to both Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra and the music of Gyorgy Ligeti, and it created one of cinema's most memorable musical images, as spaceships orbit planets to the strains of Johann Strauss's Blue Danube waltz.

Presented by Southbank Centre in association with the BFI (British Film Institute), with support from Warner Bros.

For ages 12+. Contains scenes that some viewers may find scary or disturbing.
