'Sounds & Sweet Airs' Gala 2016

Each season the special events calendar culminates in a Gala Evening in support of the Orchestra's work

This year we hosted a very special event on Wednesday 27 April in the glorious surroundings of the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

The evening, curated in partnership with acclaimed actor Simon Callow CBE, included performances inspired by Shakespeare in the quatercentenary year of his death, as part of the Shakespeare400 cultural celebrations. Guests enjoyed a Champagne Taittinger reception in the colonnades before adjourning to the beautiful chapel for an orchestral showcase with Vladimir Jurowski at the helm.

A gala dinner followed in the unparalleled grandeur of the Painted Hall, with further entertainment and interludes.  The evening culminated in a live auction and for the first time we also had a silent auction running throughout. Over £233,00 was raised and all proceeds go towards Jurowski's core work with the Orchestra, which continues to challenge, illuminate and engage audiences and musicians alike.
