LPO at the BBC Proms: 25 July 2016

On Monday 25 July we returned to the BBC Proms for this year’s Glyndebourne prom, which featured a semi-staged production of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, conducted by Enrique Mazzola.

Read the reviews here:

‘Despite all the extra, participatory demands put upon Enrique Mazzola and a compact London Philharmonic, the bright vital orchestral detail, which underpinned the bel canto style with great musical perception, was a continuous source of delight, and Mazzola never pushed Rossini’s famous crescendos to make them sound forced’.
Peter Reed, Classical Source, 25 July 2016

‘Enrique Mazzola and the London Philharmonic Orchestra gave a suavely characterful account of the overture’.
Robert Hugill, Opera Today, 26 July 2016

‘Under Mazzola’s direction, the London Philharmonic Orchestra played with great aplomb – no light soufflé this, but a full-blooded Italian affair complete with whiling woodwinds and a gleefully enthusiastic percussion section that matched the riotous fun had by the audience’.
Kevin W Ng, Bachtrack, 26 July 2016

‘A light touch was everywhere to be found from the excellent LPO players’.
Colin Clarke, Seen and Heard International, 27 July 2016

‘What made this a frothy and cooling delight on another warm and sticky Summer evening was a fizzy performance by the London Philharmonic under Enrique Mazzola’.
Simon Thomas, MusicOMH, 26 July 2016
