‘'The combination of engaged playing and disciplined conducting added up to an ideal rendition' ****
Gavin Dixon, The Arts Desk, 12 March 2015
'Whether bluesy, dreamy (retreats into wonderland) or chirpy, with some jazzy harmony to spice things up, there is much to enjoy [in the Ireland Piano Concerto], especially with a pianist as genuine in his intentions as Lane. He played with conviction, commitment, poeticism and music-serving virtuosity.'
Colin Anderson, Classical Source, 12 March 2015
'Given the conservatism of most London orchestral programming, this was a welcome curiosity' ***
John Allison, The Telegraph, Friday 13 March 2015
'More impressive still was the orchestra’s overwhelming singularity of attack and purpose: while Manze drew the first movement to its close, pressing ahead like a deranged general cantering over the volcano’s edge, his faithful cohort followed without pause for thought.' ***** Guy Damman, The Guardian, Friday 13 March 2015
