Concert Reviews: Friday 1 May 2015

Friday 1 May 2015 saw the last concert in our 2014/15 London season, featuring cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan performing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with conductor Giancarlo Guerrero. The wild imaginings of Berlioz’s opium-induced Symphonie fantastique brought the season to a thrilling conlusion.

Read the first reviews here:

'Balances [in the Dvořák] were spot-on, the LPO’s woodwinds – peerless on this occasion – both characterful and complementary to the soloist.[...] This was a spellbinding and generous account, a team effort.

'[The Finale of the Berlioz] was a wild party indeed, Guerrero at his most athletic and graphic. The church-bell leaned toward the right side of doom-laden and broomsticks and black cats were out in force as the Symphony was driven to its hedonistic conclusion.' - Colin Anderson, Classical Source, 2 May 2015

Hakhnazaryan's encore performance on the evening was of Giovanni Sollima's Lamentatio.
