Concert reviews: 6 October 2018

On Saturday 6 October LPO Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski led a performance of Beethoven's The Creatures of Prometheus and Stravinsky's Orpheus, presented in collaboration with Theater Trikster. Read the reviews below:

★★★★☆ ‘A typically interesting concert under Vladimir Jurowski ... solos for cello, basset horn and harp were piquantly phrased and treated with attractive delicacy by their performers, while flautist Juliette Bausor elevated the performance with incisive and fragrant playing ... classically strong programming from the LPO.’ Dominic Lowe, bachtrack.com, 8 October 2018

★★☆☆☆ ‘Chances to hear Beethoven’s ballet The Creatures of Prometheus don’t come round that often. Especially not in complete accounts played with the ferocity, delicacy and care displayed by a pared-back London Philharmonic Orchestra. The opening chords ripped forth with the decisive rasp and vigour of a match being lit, setting in motion an hour of music-making that was consistently compelling.’ Rebecca Franks, The Times, 9 October 2018

‘Here was another example of Vladimir Jurowski’s imaginative programme planning … Musically the performance was as good as could be … the LPO was beautifully poised and utterly perfect.’ Alan Sanders, seenandheard-international.com, 8 October 2018

'A wholly satisfactory performance ... Jurowski is always thinking about the presentation of his concerts' Nick Breckenfield, classicalsource.com, 7 October 2018
