Concert reviews: 22 November 2017

On Wednesday 22 November 2017 we were joined by Beatrice Rana for a performance of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3, as well as Bridge's Summer and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 1, led by Michail Jurowski (father of LPO Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski). Read the reviews here:

★★★★☆ ‘Jurowski handled [the Bridge’s] shimmering textures as though Bridge were his bread and butter ... the LPO found much succulent warmth ... the wind players in general had a triumphant night ... melodic grace, bright and wintry instrumental textures’ Geoff Brown, The Times, 24 November 2017 [paywall]

‘A glorious performance of the Winter Daydreams Symphony ...  in addition to excitement and strong execution there was a lovely quality of warmth and affection in the conducting ... everything seemed just right’ Alan Sanders,, 23 November 2017

★★★★☆ ‘Vladimir Jurowski has turned his orchestra into one of the country’s finest exponents of Tchaikovsky’s music. It’s clear that he inherits much of this drive from his father, who conducted a magnificent account of this joyous score’ Mark Pullinger,, 23 November 2017

‘Soloist and conductor were everywhere at one in revealing the many details of the score ... the headlong conclusion went thrillingly ... every department of the LPO shining’ Richard Landau, classicalsource, 24 November 2017
