To kick start 2020, the orchestra began it's celebrations for Ravi Shankar's 100th anniversary with a semi-staged performance of his opera, Sukanya. Collaborations between dancers, Indian musicians, opera singers and the orchestra were realised under the masterful eye of conductor David Murphy.
★★★★☆ ‘It’s a curiosity, but a perfect tribute to mark Shankar’s centenary year.’ Simon Broughton, 16 January 2020, Evening Standard
★★★☆☆ ‘The orchestra highlighted the moments of drama in the piece with boldness and vigour’ Steven Johnson, 17 January 2020, Music OMH
★★★☆☆ ‘It’s also fantastic that the London Philharmonic Orchestra are willing to take a risk on such unproven repertoire’ Timmy Fisher, 17 January 2020, Bachtrack
