Pre-concert Event: London Music Masters

On 23 October at 6pm over 70 London Music Masters Learning primary school violinists will come together with the London Philharmonic Orchestra for an evening of dance inspired music.

London Music Masters (LMM) and the London Philharmonic Orchestra have a creative partnership stretching back over 8 years. In that time LMM Award Holders have performed as soloists with the orchestra around the world and LMM Learning primary school students have shared the stage with the orchestra on many occasions.

Composer Gavin Higgins, who was featured in the last night of the proms in 2014, was commissioned by LMM to write for this unique ensemble. Collaborating with sound artist Matthias Kispert, he has created a new work which traces dance music from Baroque to the modern day. The programme is completed by a movement from Vaughan Williams' Concerto Grosso which is a robust and energetic piece written for professional and community ensembles. Vaughan Williams, Britten and others saw music as a uniting force between communities, generations and cultures. Higgins' Tänze for orchestra and violin ensemble carries this tradition forwards.
