A message to our audiences

It is with deep regret and a heavy heart that we have to inform you of the cancellation of the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s concerts due to take place until Friday 17 April inclusive at London’s Southbank Centre (Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall), with immediate effect.

This follows the latest government update relating to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the advice around social distancing, which means we must of course act responsibly and take the health and safety of our audiences, players and staff very seriously.

Anyone that has booked a ticket for any of our cancelled concerts is entitled to a full refund, or could accept a credit voucher with an extended expiry date. We are also asking everyone for whom it is possible to consider donating the value of their tickets back to the Orchestra to help to sustain our musicians in these unprecedented times – please see below.

We are devastated that we will not see our audiences in person over the coming weeks, but we will do our utmost to find ways to create and share as much digital content as we can with our players over the coming weeks, and will keep you up-to-date with this in due course. We have also teamed up with our partner classical streaming service Idagio to offer all those affected by our cancelled concerts one month’s free access.

Cancellation of our concerts presents a huge financial challenge to the Orchestra, and the long-term impact of the loss of ticket income (a significant proportion of our overall revenue) for a number of weeks is of great concern to us all. We are determined to do everything we can to survive this crisis, to hold onto our incredibly talented musicians and to keep one of the world’s great orchestras alive. But we are unlikely to be able to do this without your help.

We ask those who are able to consider instead donating the cost of your ticket order (or part of) to help us through this unprecedented period. Our musicians are all self-employed freelance workers and therefore do not earn any income when performances are cancelled. We are committed to supporting our musicians during this time and have launched a ‘Player Appeal’ with all funds raised going directly to our players.

The process for requesting a refund or credit note, or donating your ticket amount has been communicated to bookers, alongside information about the Idagio voucher.
