Kate is originally from Christchurch, New Zealand. She was a member of the LPO Foyle Future Firsts scheme in 2017/18, and before joining the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 2020 was Sub-Principal No. 5 First Violin at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She has previously worked on a freelance basis with orchestras including the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony and New Zealand Symphony orchestras.
Kate moved to London to undertake Masters studies with Remus Azoitei at the Royal Academy of Music in 2014, where upon graduating she was awarded the DipRAM and Regency Award for notable achievement. She is also a graduate of the New Zealand School of Music, where she studied with Yury Gezentsvey.
Kate has given chamber music recitals at Wigmore Hall, the Southbank Centre, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Fondazione Cini in Venice, and has toured as an Encompass Artist with Chamber Music New Zealand. She was a CAVATINA Chamber Music Fellow at the Royal Academy from 2016-18, and was winner of the First Prize and Special Prize for the best performance of a contemporary work at the Orlando International Chamber Music Competition.
