Glyndebourne 2016: Meistersinger reviews

The London Philharmonic Orchestra has been one of the resident orchestras at Glyndebourne Festival Opera for over 50 years. This year’s season started with Wagner’s triumphant Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg conducted by Michael Güttler (ends 27 June).

In March 2016, we released our recording of works by Julian Anderson, LPO Composer in Residence from 2010–14. The three pieces that have been recorded are a celebration of his tenure: In lieblicher Bläue, Alleluia and The Stations of the Sun.

In our final performance in our 2015/16 London season, Saturday 30 April, our Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor Vladimir Jurowski led the Orchestra in a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 4 and R Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony.

On Saturday 23 April, the London Philharmonic Orchestra were joined by a star-studded line up of singers and actors, including Simon Callow, in a jam-packed Anniversary Gala performance of music and the spoken word, in celebration of the world’s greatest playwright, William Shakespeare.
