Brahms 2 recording selected by BBC Radio 3

Our recording of Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 with Vladimir Jurowski on the LPO’s own label (LPO-0043) was chosen as the recommended recording of the work by BBC Radio 3’s ‘Building a Library’ programme on Saturday 1 June.

Presenter Stephen Johnson described the performance as ‘superbly conceived as a whole, emotionally coherent and compelling, and with a lively awareness of the many, often overlooked, complexities of this seemingly easygoing symphony. The ending is roof-raising, and I’m glad that they left the applause in … after the invigorating coda, I feel like joining in.’

The double CD also includes Brahms’s Symphony No. 1.
