In this short film we introduce Messiaen's 1974 work Des canyons aux étoiles (From the Canyons to the Stars) - an orchestral depiction of the vastness of space. Messiaen’s hallmarks are all here: intoxicating colours, vivid images of nature, and beguiling rhythms imported from Asian traditions. We perform this piece on Saturday 2 November, as part of Southbank Centre's The Rest Is Noise.

A short film introducing Lutosławski's earthy and spirited Cello Concerto of 1967, composed for and dedicated to cellist Mstislav Rostropovich during a time of great political unrest in the composer's native Poland. We perform the Cello Concerto with Johannes Moser on Wednesday 30 October.

In this short video the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Education & Community Director Patrick Bailey introduces Prokofiev's Seventh and final Symphony, an evocative and nostalgia-tinged work written in 1952 and premiered just six-months before the composer's death. We perform this piece on Wednesday 23 October at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall.
