LPO Composer in Residence Magnus Lindberg’s mantra is ‘only the extreme is interesting.’ Originally inspired by such diverse sounds as French spectralism, Japanese drumming and German punk rock, Lindberg injects the raw energy of these influences into his orchestral music, adding a lyricism and glowing sonority to create a voluptuous and original sound. On Wednesday 28 January, the LPO is joined by world-renowned soprano Barbara Hannigan to premiere Lindberg's Accused: three interrogations for soprano & orchestra, an ambitious work that explores the complex relationship between individual and state. This bold new work incorporates extracts from an interrogation of a victim (Mademoiselle Théroigne de Méricourt) of the turbulent events surrounding the French revolution, the transcript of a Stasi interrogation in East Germany during the 1960s and the transcript of the trial of Bradley (now Chelsea) Manning.
