Shakespeare400: Romeo and Juliet in Popular Culture

Romeo and Juliet

Shakespeare’s famous story of a pair of star-cross’d lovers has sparked countless retellings on stage, on screen, and in the concert hall. Ahead of our performance of excerpts from Prokofiev’s musical version on Friday 15 April as part of our Shakespeare400 celebrations, we have had a look at some of the music in films and musicals that have been inspired by Shakespeare’s tragic romance, Romeo and Juliet.

LPO Soundworks Diaries: 9 April 2016

On Saturday 9 April, young musicians and young dancers from Rambert's Quicksilver came together for their performance of Walking Shadows – a culmination of a four day intensive project composing, choreographing and rehearsing for a collaborative piece inspired by Shakespeare’s Macbeth. After their performance, we caught up with a couple of the young musicians and dancers to hear their thoughts on the week, and to find out their favourite moments.

LPO Soundworks Diaries: 8 April 2016 - Meet Laura

This week young musicians in our LPO Soundworks project have been working with young dancers from Quicksilver, Rambert’s youth dance company, to create a collaborative piece based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Ahead of their performance on Saturday 9 April, we caught up with the choreographer of the piece, Laura Harvey, to find out how the dance aspect of the work is coming together, and what she hopes the dancers can take away from the experience.
