Experience the wonder of opera in the heart of the Sussex countryside

Glyndebourne

Since the first performances in 1934, Glyndebourne Festival Opera has held a unique place in the world of opera, presenting world-class operatic productions in the heart of the Sussex countryside. Today the opera season runs for about four months with performances taking place in its world-renowned opera house, which stands next to the country home of John Christie, Glyndebourne’s founder. The London Philharmonic Orchestra has a long and illustrious history at Glyndebourne, and the LPO has been the resident symphony orchestra for Glyndebourne festival since 1964.

Generally, six operas are presented each summer, covering early music, romantic operas and contemporary works. Surrounded by beautiful gardens in which the audience can picnic during the long dinner interval, Glyndebourne remains one of the most enchanting experiences of the English summer season.
