Tom Lincoln Macbeth
Eva Feiler Lady Macbeth
The decade during which Strauss composed his Macbeth overture was one of ferocious and spectacularcreativity where Shakespeare’s Scottish play was concerned. In this cross arts exploration, Dr Lucy Munro of King’s College London will be joined by actors and musicians to explore two landmark productions of Macbeth through visual material, performed extracts and music, including Sarah Bernhardt’s controversially erotic portrayal of Lady Macbeth in 1884, and Ellen Terry’s embodiment of the character in 1888, which Sargent famously captured on canvas.
An introduction to the ways in which composers have been inspired by Shakespeare.
