David Lean's 1945 film traces the affair of a married doctor and suburban housewife who meet on a train platform.
The centrepiece of a three-week series of films screened in Royal Festival Hall, Brief Encounter is shown with a newly commissioned orchestral soundtrack as part of Southbank Centre's Festival of Love. The film features Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2 throughout its soundtrack: in fact, the film was largely responsible for bringing this epic work to fame.
This performance is introduced by actor Lucy Fleming (daughter of Celia Johnson). A complete performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2 precedes the screening. Make a night of it, dress up in character, and join in themed activities from 6pm in the foyers.
This film has a PG rating. Parental guidance is recommended.
By arrangement with ITV Studios Global Entertainment and Park Circus Films.
