GCSE New Horizons Project Performance

6:00 PM, Royal Festival Hall, London

New Horizons is the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s compositional strand of education work with GCSE music students. It is designed to support the curriculum by enabling students to listen, compose and perform alongside professional animateurs and world-class orchestral players.

LPO musicians have been working with four GCSE Year 10 groups from south-east London to explore the music of Shostakovich. Looking at Shostakovich’s compositional devices and techniques, the groups from Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich have received five workshops to listen, discuss, create, rehearse, and now perform their group compositions based on Symphony No. 1. This project is led by former LPO Leverhulme Young Composer Peter Yarde Martin.

Please join us to see these extraordinary young musicians perform their Shostakovich-inspired compositions!
