The Band
Are you aged 15-19 from South London?
Do you play an instrument or sing?
Then The Band needs you!
The Band is a weekly group for young people to write and perform their own music, influenced by the group members and the musical styles that they love. With a leader that has roots in jazz, funk and rock and orchestral musicians from the London Philharmonic Orchestra involved each week, our members take inspiration from blues, hip hop, reggae and soul as well as a wide range of other styles to create their own new tracks.
Members since we started have played a whole range of instruments -
Strings: violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp
Wind: flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone
Brass: trumpet, trombone, tuba, horn
Piano and Rhythm: keyboards, steel pans, cajon, djembe, drumkit
Electric: Guitars, bass, DJs
Vox: Male and Female singers, rappers, beatboxers
Whether you play any of the above or something completely different we welcome any instrument and any level of experience, so get in touch and get involved!

THE BAND SPRING TERM 2012 - SURROGATE CITIES EXPLODED
Spring 2012 sees The Band involved in a special project for Music Nation, a spectacular weekend of music around the UK.
Joining more than 8 other groups of young performers, we will be part of the Surrogate Cities Exploded! event at Southbank Centre, writing music based on an amazing piece by composer Heiner Goebbels to perform in a space around Festival Hall.
You need to be able to commit to all the rehearsals if you would like to be involved this term

· Thurs 1 March 6.30pm – 9.00pm @ The Blue Room, Spirit Level, Royal Festival Hall
PERFORMANCE – Saturday 3 March @ Royal Festival Hall
From 10am onwards rehearsals and soundcheck (tbc)
