Annual Appeal 2008/09

South London Schools Project

Pupils performing at the RFH   Vladimir Jurowski applauds

In February 2009 the Orchestra will deliver a special project with primary school students in Lambeth in collaboration with Lambeth City Learning Centre.

In a series of workshops the children will explore Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique creating their own pieces of music and animated film in response to the themes and story behind the masterpiece. They will be supported and inspired by musicians from the Orchestra under the guidance of a highly experienced workshop leader. The children will create animations with the help of a professional animator which will be screened as they perform their compositions in public at the Royal Festival Hall, prior to the Orchestra’s concert on Friday 6 March 2009.

from animated film to The Nutcracker

This project will cost in excess of £12,000. Neither the schools, nor the students will be asked to pay anything to take part, to ensure that cost is not a barrier to participation. As the Orchestra does not receive public funding for this or for any of its education projects, we ask for your support to help us make this programme possible this season.

All gifts over £250 will be acknowledged in selected concert programmes throughout 2009.
