Concert reviews: 18 April 2018

On Wednesday 18 April LPO Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski led a performance of Stravinsky's Symphony in C and Tango, Debussy's Fantasie with soloist Leif Ove Andsnes, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 6. Read the reviews below:

★★★★★ ‘Jurowski met the spirit of the work with a full-blooded reading with little compromise. Rarely have the LPO’s strings been so concentrated in white heat ... my concert of the year so far.’ Young-Jin Hur, bachtrack.com, 19 April 2018

★★★★★ ‘Kudos, as ever, to Vladimir Jurowski for making epic connection ... a spellbinding evening ... Shostakovich's typically quirky symphonic sequence captivated, terrorised and overwhelmed an astonished audience’ David Nice, theartsdesk.com, 19 April 2018

‘The LPO was put on its mettle by Vladimir Jurowski’s challengingly quick tempo for the opening movement and responded crisply and with stylish shapeliness, not least oboist Ian Hardwick. This is a rigorous work, music about music, and Jurowski found its dynamics and details, also its force, and then its tenderness’ Colin Anderson, classicalsource.com, 19 April 2018
