Concert reviews: 17 March 2018

On Saturday 17 March we performed excerpts from Stravinsky's arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty, Stravinsky's The Fairy's Kiss, and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 with soloist Daniil Trifonov, conducted by LPO Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski. Read the reviews below:

★★★★★ ‘There is serious structure to the London Philharmonic Orchestra’s playing under Vladimir Jurowski this season: precision, flexibility and uplift ... This was surely the highlight so far of Changing Faces: Stravinsky’s JourneyAnna Picard, The Times, 20 March 2018

‘Vladimir Jurowski conducted a vivid account, lean and deliciously pungent, Stravinsky’s personality unmistakably his own. This inspiring reading brought out every rhythmic and melodic nuance… such was the LPO’s sensitivity and overall response that one became immersed in Stravinsky’s wizardry’ David Truslove, classicalsource.com, 18 March 2018

‘Jurowski delineated every contrasting instrumental colour and texture with characteristic care and command ... It was all wonderfully evocative’ Claire Seymour, seenandheard-international.com, 18 March 2018

★★★☆☆ ‘Vladimir Jurowski launched the orchestra into that biggest of Tchaikovsky melodies within moments and Trifonov was clearly at home from the word go’ David Karlin, bachtrack.com, 18 March 2018
