Pieter Schoeman announced as Leader
(March 2008)

We're delighted to announce the appointment of Pieter Schoeman as Leader, alongside our existing Leader, Boris Garlitsky.  Pieter has been Co-Leader of the Orchestra since 2002, regularly leading the Orchestra in concerts and recordings and at Glyndebourne Festival Opera.   Pieter's appointment reflects his outstanding contribution to the Orchestra.  Congratulations Pieter!

Yannick Nézet-Séguin appointed Principal Guest Conductor
The London Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that Yannick Nézet-Séguin will take up the position of Principal Guest Conductor at the start of the Orchestra’s 2008/09 season.

Timothy Walker, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of the London Philharmonic Orchestra said today: “Many who witnessed Yannick’s impressive debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra will understand the motivation for this appointment. Taking outstanding musicality, knowledge and technique as a given Yannick’s brilliance lies in his ability to move players to exceptional performance and to communicate a strength and vitality of vision to the listener that is totally engrossing”.

Vladimir Jurowski wins The Royal Philharmonic Society's Music Award in the Conductor category
The jury's announcement ran: 'Vladimir Jurowksi: A profoundly intelligent musician who has produced fresh and compelling interpretations across a wide range of repertoire. The intensity of his music-making, particularly with the LPO and at Glyndebourne has illuminated the experience of) audiences and musicians alike.'
