In March 2015 the LPO released a rare recording of Messiaen's extraordinary Des canyons aux étoiles. Recorded live in concert in 2013, and conducted by Messiaen expert Christoph Eschenbach, this performance has received brilliant reviews in the press.

Concert reviews: Saturday 21 March 2015

On Saturday 21 March 2015 at Royal Festival Hall, the London Philharmonic Orchestra performed the UK premeire of Composer in Residence Magnus Lindberg's Piano Concerto No. 2. On Saturday 14 March 2015 at Royal Festival Hall, the London Philharmonic Orchestra gave the world premeire performance of Julian Anderson's In lieblicher Bläue for violin and orchestra before performing the complete score of Ravel's ballet Daphnis et Chloé.

Concert reviews: Wednesday 11 March 2015

On Wednesday 11 March 2015 at Royal Festival Hall, Andrew Manze conducted the London Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert of English music. The programme included Elgar's Introduction and Allegro, Walton's Symphony No. 1 and Ireland's Piano Concerto, performed with soloist Piers Lane.

Concert review: 25 February 2015

Wednesday 25 February saw a packed house thrill at a concert of seminal classical works including Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto and Beethoven's great Symphony No. 5. Conducted by a sprightly 75-year-old Christoph Eschenbach, Ray Chen was the soloist. Two overtures began the concert: Beethoven's Egmont and Schumann's Overture, Scherzo and Finale.

On Saturday 21 February 2015 at Royal Festival Hall, the Orchestra performed a full programme of Beethoven, conducted by Marin Alsop. The programme included Beethoven's Leonore Overture, Symphony No. 7 and Piano Concerto No. 3, performed with soloist David Fray.

Concert Reviews: 7, 8, 11 and 13 February 2015

The first half of February saw the LPO perform three more Rachmaninoff: Inside Out concerts which also included performances of the rarely performed mighty Enescu Symphony No. 3, and audiences were almost literally blown away by Shostakovich’s emotionally draining Symphony No. 4. Younger audiences were enraptured by Colin Matthews’s premiere of The Pied Piper of Hamelin based on Michael Morpurgo’s retelling of the tale of the stranger with the magical flute.
