Patricia Kopachinskaja

On Wednesday 28 October, the London Philharmonic Orchestra were joined by the German conductor Markus Stenz and violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja in a performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, Thomas Larcher’s Violin Concerto and Stravinsky’s groundbreaking score for the ballet, The Rite of Spring.

Friday 23 October marked the Swiss conductor, Thierry Fischer’s conducting debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, in a performance of three French masterpieces – Bizet’s Symphony in C, Ravel’s Piano Concerto and Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No. 3 (Organ).

Concert Reviews: 14 October 2015

Krzysztof Penderecki

On 14 October, the London Philharmonic Orchestra was joined by Polish conductor, Krzysztof Penderecki in a world premiere performance of his Adagio for Strings and Horn Concerto, as well as his profound Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima. The conductor also broke away from his own works to conduct Shostakovich’s Sixth Symphony.

Concert Reviews: 3 October 2015

Leonidas Kavakos

On Saturday 3 October, London Philharmonic Orchestra was once again joined by their Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor, Vladimir Jurowski, as well as violinist Leonidas Kavakos, for a performance of Knussen, Sibelius, and Scriabin’s Third Symphony: The Divine Poem.

Concert Reviews: 26 September 2015

On Saturday 26 September, the London Philharmonic Orchestra returned to Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, for their second performance of the 15/16 season. The concert featured Taneyev’s St John of Damascus, Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini, and Sibelius’s Second Symphony.

Concert Reviews: 23 September 2015

The opening concert of the LPO's 2015/16 season began with what Vladimir Jurowski describes as the 'Mount Everest' of symphonies, Mahler's Seventh. Jurowski, the LPO's Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser, was on the podium and ready for the challenge.

LPO at BBC Proms 4 September 2015

This year’s LPO BBC Prom in a steamy Royal Albert Hall saw Vladimir Jurowski conduct Beethoven’s Fidelio Overture and Mitsuko Uchida as soloiost in Schoenberg’s rarely performed 20-minute Piano Concerto. But it was a powerfully bleak reading of Shostakovich Symphony No. 8, described by the composer as reflecting 'the terrible tragedy of the war',  which moved the critics.
