The Schools' Programme is central to the London Philharmonic
Orchestra's education and community work. At the heart of
the Schools' Programme are three workshop-led projects, ConcertLink,
PlayerLink
and Adopt-a-Class.
All projects take place within the local community and involve
players from the Orchestra working alongside workshop leaders,
leading towards or building on the BrightSparks
Schools' Concerts. With 389 workshops and 6 Schools' Concerts
per year, the Schools' Programme reaches around 30,000 pupils
each year.
The Schools' Concerts are often the first concert hall experience
for many of the pupils attending. The opportunity to see and
hear a live symphony orchestra can be a wonderfully inspiring
experience for many children, and when this is combined with
the workshop programme the overall benefits to the pupils
can be substantial.
Teachers' Sessions are held before each Schools' Concert to
familiarise specialists and non-specialists alike with the
repertoire for the concert. A Teachers'
Pack is produced alongside each concert containing information
and activities linked to the curriculum.
