Out of school
As well as an extensive programme of working in schools, the London Philharmonic Orchestra also works with young people outside of formal education.
The focus of our work is in providing excellent ensemble and performance opportunities and allowing young people of all abilities and from all instrumental backgrounds (orchestral, non-orchestral, western, non-western, acoustic, non-acoustic) the opportunity to play alongside professional musicians. Our projects also encourage young people to write, develop and rehearse their own musical ideas.
An orchestra for the 21st century made up of young people aged 10-14 from Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.
The quality of the performances was outstanding. What is unique about Animate is how inclusive it is, both the children taking part and the music they perform. My children have almost been turned off by classical music and these courses have turned that around.Parent, Animate Orchestra
